This week’s lecture was so-so. The part about business and legal issues was informative, pretty dry, but informative nonetheless. I really liked watching the movie. It was a nice break from all of the lectures we’ve had recently. The part of the movie that caught my attention was when the Negativeland guy said something like they don’t ask us if we want to listen to U2 in stores when we shop, or see brand names everywhere we walk, so why should we have to ask to take a small part of it. I’ve never really understood why listening to music downloaded from the Internet was such a bad thing, when you can turn on the radio ad listen t it without any problem. I don’t know, I guess I just thought if musicians really loved what they were doing they wouldn’t care about the money, rather the effect they were having on people through their music. But I guess that’s not reality and people are greatly influenced by money. But I predict that someday people will be able to remix their butts off without any trouble. The only question is when and how many people will have to suffer the consequences before this happens.
